Reiter doesn’t want to name names just yet, but says about 10 or 15 of these will be food trucks. “It’s an idea for this big food court that’s really more of an authentic bite of Seattle,” says Reiter. “There’s going to be a lot of diverse food.”

He’s envisioning a picnic-style setup that takes on a night market feel after the sun goes down; he’s been working with the Capitol Hill Chamber and Cal Anderson Park Alliance to nail down the proposed location on the park’s east side, along 11th Avenue between Pine and Howell streets.

The festival will also include a separate pop-up diner area in conjunction with the One Night Only Project, where brick-and-mortar chefs will be serving up family-style food. So far Joshua Henderson and Ethan Stowell are signed on to participate. (Skillet founder Henderson now considered a brick-and-mortar chef? How time marches on.) Proceeds will go to the chefs’ designated charities.

Traditionally, it brings together a collection of stalls that usually sell goods such as fruit, vegetables, snacks, toys, clothes, movie discs and ornaments at cheap or at least reasonable prices. A pasar malam often takes place only one to a few days of the week, as the traders rotate around different neighbourhoods on different days of the week. Haggling over prices is a common practice at such markets.

This year’s newest street food festival brings the fun of the Mobile Food Rodeo with a much wider showcase of authentic, locally-made street food in the great Northwest this August with serious street cred. Over 50 local street food vendors are set to serve curbside in the heart of the city on a hot summer day!

It features a unique blend of outdoor programming from a authentic night market, pop-up feast, and two local craft beer gardens with live music. Set in beautiful downtown Capitol Hill along Cal ANderson Park, it delivers a “summer n the city” ambiance unlike anything you have experienced in the Northwest.

In an effort to bring a wider collection to the the Mobile Food Rodeo than just trucks, we decided to start the first-ever Seattle Street Food Festival to debut along Cal Anderson Park with over 50 locally made street food vendors representing over 15 international countries from around the world.

Admission is free to the general public and family-friendly.  There will be special events ticvkts that will be announced on June 30th offering a food experince unlike anything else.

With over 30,000 people in attendance this past weekend for our Cinco De Mayo Mobile Food Rodeo, it is clear that we need more space, more days and more trucks to enjoy this street food nirvana.

The Mobile Food Rodeo will return to Fremont on Saturday, May 3rd and 4th starting at 12pm until 10pm with a beer garden style event for just Saturday with about 25 food trucks and then open to the general public for all day Sunday with a larger showcase similar to the past weekend.

There is also talk about creating a VIF (Very Important Foodie) that offers “time waves” during the Saturday event so that folks can enjoy in smaller numbers and would be easier to enjoy all day long for ticket holders.

Organizer and founder, Ryan Reiter says “It’s amazing to see so many folks enjoy the festival and support these small businesses in Fremont, so we plan to expand the festival over two streets to ensure it has enough space for attendees to feel comfortable and enjoy it year after year. Reiter and his team have tried to be proactive in dealing with the quick growth of the festival and appreciates the  support of the community to make improvements every year.

What else is new? There plan is to create a Night Market Festival for the Saturday evening, so folks can enjoy an authentic street market underneath the stars with a relaxing view along Fremont Canal.

What’s next? Save the date for their 1st annual Seattle Street Food Festival set for Saturday, August 10th along Cal Anderson Park and and plans to announce an upcoming September festival that will be 21 + only with live bands and craft beers in SoDo are in the works.

Seattle Met’s Allecia Vermillion sat down with our Festival Director, Ryan Reiter for a first hand look at this year’s new Seattle Street Food Festival.

A major street food gathering is coming to Cal Anderson Park this summer, courtesy of Ryan Reiter, the guy behind the Mobile Food Rodeo food truck gatherings.

But don’t call it a food truck event, he says. “The whole concept of street food has been around since the beginning of time.” And Reiter also wants to showcase all the carts, booths, and other up-and-coming enterprises whose version of street food doesn’t involve four wheels.

Our founder, Bob Will, while working at a local bank, invested in a small dealership selling an unknown little car called the Volkswagen Beetle.
Bob was born and raised just a few blocks from the dealership in the University District. After serving in the Army Airforce during World War II, he completed his education at the University of Washington, where he was a member of the four-oared Crew that won an Olympic Gold Medal at the 1948 London Olympic Games.

Bob’s strong work ethics and vision built the once small store into one of the Northwest’s best automobile dealerships.

In 1989, Bob retired and his son Rob took over as General Manager. Rob started working at the dealership in 1968, washing and detailing cars. Over the years he has been a mechanic, Service Advisor, Service Manager, Finance Manager, Sales Manager, and in 1994 Rob purchased the dealership. University has continued to grow, becoming two of the finest dealerships in the Northwest, University Audi and University Volkswagen.
